Anju Devi gives Manipur fifth weightlifting gold; Trupti, Achinta declared best

Arambam Anju Devi of Manipur and Bhartveer of Delhi won gold medals in the girls’ and boys’ Over-69kg and Over-94kg class respectively as the weightlifting competition concluded at the Indira Gandhi Stadium today. Anju Devi’s gold medal on the final morning of the Khelo India School Games gave Manipur their fifth weightlifting gold medal of the Games.
Manipur were adjudged the Top team with five gold and one silver, though Maharashtra had 19 medals, of which three were gold. There were 15 gold medals on offer in the weightlifting competition. Telengana picked two gold, while five other states had one gold each.

Bhartveer’s gold-winning effort with a combined lift of 217kg in the above 94kg class in the last event of weightlifting gave Delhi its first medal of the competition, while Ashwani Tejyan (silver) of Uttar Pradesh and Ashish Kumar Gorai (bronze) of Bihar completed the podium.
In the final event of the girls’ competition, G Gracey Sahana of Andhra Pradesh won silver behind Arambam Anju Devi fo Manipur while Snehal Bhongale of Maharashtra gave Maharashtra their 19th medal of this event, which propelled the state to a second place in Team standings in the sport.
Telangana didn’t feature among the medals on the final day but with two gold medals they took the third place in team standings.
Among individual lifters, Trupti Mane and Achinta Sheuli, both of Maharashtra, were adjudged the Best girl and Best boy weightlifter of the competition.

Trupti’s youth national record effort in the clean & jerk category as well as combined lift made her the automatic choice, while Sheuli won out over state-mate and fellow gold medallist Jeremy Lalrinnunga.

Over-94kg: 1. Bhartveer (Delhi) snatch 94kg, clean & jerk 123kg, total 217kg; 2. Ashwani Tejyan (Uttar Pradesh) 100kg, 116kg, total 216kg; 3. Ashish Kumar Gorai (Bihar) 85kg, 106kg, total 191kg.
Best girls' weightlifter: Trupti Mane (Maharashtra)
